Glimmer

Philosophy

Glimmer is a welcoming space for all, encouraging participants to share their questions, theories, and stories about the crown. It is in this sharing of experiences and narratives that we anticipate the story of Glimmer will continue to evolve, revealing chapters yet to be written, as it sparks curiosity and fosters community interaction. The fire pit, zen gardens, and benches are more than just elements of the structure; they are invitations for people to pause, relax, and connect with one another and with the art itself.

We want this piece to have a playful, curious side, and for us playful means FIRE! Built into the crown will be ways to make the poofers poof, because pushing a button and having a poofer go off is one of the most joyous feelings we know.

Summary

Glimmer is a grand crown made of steel vines, vibrant resin flowers, and colorful gems. Inside the crown a fire pit and benches invite people to pause, observe, and consider the reality around them. At night gems will glow and points of the crown will ignite creating a spectacle of light and heat.

Description

Glimmer stands 15’ tall x 36’ across. The frame of the crown is made out of steel branches with organic details and embellishments that hold large gems in place. Leaves and flowers, some made out of metal and some made out of colorful poured resin, will grow from the branches. The gems, upwards of 7' tall, are framed in steel with frosted acrylic sheets and internally lit by colorful LEDs.  At the points of the crown propane flame elements will poof blasts of fire into the night sky, infusing the space with warmth and energy. In the center, sits a wood burning fire pit and benches are placed throughout the interior of the piece. Fire zen gardens, which allow participants to draw in fiery sand, will also be placed inside. 


During the day, sunlight will shine through the gems painting the playa with color, and will also cast sculptural shadows as the sun passes through the details of the crown.  At night, lights inside the gems will illuminate their form.
